I can confirm at least the symptoms.
I had been receiving this error despite everything appearing correct in
my system setup:
[jamie at janeiro ~]$ kpasswd
Password for jamie at example.com
Enter new password:
Enter it again:
Server error: Failed decrypting request
[jamie at janeiro ~]$
(I was trying this on the host that provides the kerberos service)
Removing the line:
::1 janeiro.example.com janeiro
from /etc/hosts solved my problem and now both kpasswd and passwd
changed passwords successfully.
This is on Fedora Core 7 with the krb packages:
-bash-3.2$ yum list '*krb*'
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
